A finalist in the Lorian Hemingway and Glimmertrain Short Story competitions (2006), Steve Wade was awarded Second Prize in the Biscuit International Short Story Competition (2008). Recently published in an anthology by Turner Maxwell Books, he is currently shortlisted for The Hennessy New Irish Writing Prize, The Fish Short Story Prize and West 47 Online Short Fiction Prize (2009). The Birthday

  The Birthday by Steve Wade   Another birthday. My thirty-seventh. Somehow, there seemed great significance attached to my being thirty-seven. There were famous figures in history who didn’t quite kick-off their careers till they were thirty-seven. George Barnard Shaw was one of them; that I knew. And there were others too, but I couldn’t think of any.
